In Vedanta philosophy, three bodies (shariras) and five sheaths (koshas) are distinguished.
Shariras are the carriers of the immortal soul (Atman, Brahman, Shiva, Purusha).
Koshas are the sheaths, that envelop and cover the soul.
All three bodies and five shells are made of the same energy, the cosmic Shakti.
On the physical plane Shakti vibrates the slowest, on the causal plane it vibrates the fastest.
According to different tantric traditions the human being has between 5-7 koshas (bodys).
