Integral Yoga:
Amrita (Sanskrit: अमृत amṛta adj., m. and n.) literally: "not dead (Mrita)"; immortal, immortality, the world of immortality, also the immortality potion (Soma), nectar of immortality, water of life.
Legend says there was an ongoing fight between devas and asuras. Vishnu so then gave both of them the opportunity to gain immortality.
Many precious things were created by the foaming of the ocean of Vishnu. Lakshmi, Chandra, Airavata came into being, but also the poison Kalkoota, which was so poisonous that creation was on the verge of destruction. Shiva drank the poison to save the world and kept it in his throat, which turned blue due to the effect of the poison. Henceforth, Shiva was also called 'Nilakantha'.
Vishnu finally gave the whole amrita to the Devas. Only two Asuras could partly capture it by a trick. Their names are Rahu and Ketu (see vedic astrology).

Lead me from identification with the impermanent to realisation of the eternal.

Hatha Yoga Pradipika

The three bandhas are the best and they are followed by the masters (siddha). | Among all the opinions in hatha yoga, the yogis value it as effective.

Whatever nectar of immortality (Amrita) flows from the divine moon, | all is consumed by the sun as the body melts away in old age.

Now Viparita Karani Mudra - the Reverse Posture
Therefore there is a divine action that deceives the mouth (Mukha) of the Sun (Surya). | This has to be learnt from the teaching of a teacher (Guru) and certainly not from million texts (Shastra).

VIPARITA KARANI
Reversed (Viparita) here means that the position of moon (Chandra) and sun (Surya) in the body is reverse.
Normally the moon, the nectar (amrita) in the area of the head, is above and the sun, the (digestive) fire in the area of the navel, is below. In the yogic conception, the life-giving nectar drips downwards and is consumed by the fire in the navel area (solar plexus). This is considered the cause of old age and death.
Through Viparita Karani, the sun comes up and the moon comes down, which stops the ageing process and preserves the nectar. This is valid of course for shoulderstand and headstand too.
